I received the following email from a friend today and was mildly torqued about it:

I was asked to send this on if I agree or delete if I don’t. I’ve sent it to you so you know my opinion. What do you think about this?

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having “In God We Trust” on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don’t we just tell the 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!

If you agree, pass this on, if not delete. . .

I replied: How about If you disagree state why? Not just delete. That’s saying “Agree with me or don’t talk” and thats not the principle that this country was founded on. Any one with an iota of history knowledge will know that “Under God” was added at the height of the cold war because somehow it would stop the United States from becoming atheist devils! It was unconstitutional then and it still is today. Doesn’t matter if you “like” or “dislike” it. I served in the military for 9 years to ensure YOU would have the rights of free speech and that the constitution would be upheld.

I am not a christian.

Try this on for size:

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the republic that it established; one nation out of many Peoples, with Liberty and Justice for all.

You want to believe in god, gods, deities or sprites - have at it, you have a right to under our constitution. But other citizens have right (god given? harhar) to live, eat and pay taxes without pledging their allegiance to a nation “under god.” Actually the thought of a nation under god should frighten the shit out of you. It might not be YOUR god you are forced to live under.

Keep religion out of government. Turn on CNN and watch our soldiers dying daily - the war being right or wrong - to liberate 2 countries from theocracies. - But we all know “their” god is the wrong one, don’t we?

Sorry I didn’t just “Delete it”
