New Zealand. Hard on the heels of the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it has been confirmed that another epic fantasy will be filmed in New Zealand. New Zealand director Andrew Adamson, the man behind Shrek, will bring to life the C.S Lewis classic The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe with a budget of more than $150 million. Full Story.

A write up at Amazon.com states that “The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, is one of the very few sets of books that should be read three times: in childhood, early adulthood, and late in life. ” I couldn’t agree more. I bought the boxed sets for my nephew last year and I have to admit they were almost shipped late as I tore through each of them. I think I might pick them up again and read them at a more leisurely pace.

But why the post, well, I am excited that a whole new generation of kids has been turned on to the Lord of The Rings, but dismayed at the possibility that they will never read the books. The same goes with the Chronicles of Narnia - please, please, do yourself a favor. Dump the Harry Potter for a moment and treat yourself or someone you love to two of the greatest series ever written: The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. Read them. You won’t regret it. And I’ll bet you don’t read them just once.
